Abstract:

Production of pure hydrogen is considered as a clean energy carrier and feedstock for fuel cells. Among the current technologies for hydrogen separation, membrane technology due to advantages such as cost-effectiveness has special place in hydrogen purification. Palladium membranes, because of its high selectivity for hydrogen, are the appropriate solution in hydrogen purification. Due to the high cost of palladium and importance of reducing the thickness of palladium layer, using of deect-free substrate with uniform pore size distribution is necessary. For this mean, α-alumina substrate that modified with γ-alumina layer, by using chemical deposition of silica source was treated. The results showed that large pores and defects are blocked after repair process so that the permselectivity of H2/N2 increased more than 25%.
