Abstract:

Fiber metal laminates (FMLs) are hybrid composites consisting of alternating layers of metal-alloy sheets and fiber reinforced epoxy resin. The main aim of FMLs is to combine superior fatigue resistance of composite materials with plastic behavior and durability of metals. In the percent work, FMLs with typical configurations evaluated by high speed impact gas gun and investigated analytically. The perforation resistances or resistance to high speed impact projectile of the various laminates investigated numerically here by using Reid perforation model. In this study, evaluated the effect, type, increasing the number, configurations of fibers and the number of metal layers on perforation energy and subsequently, absorbedimpact energy. Here, it was found that FMLs fabricated with woven glass fibers impregnated with epoxy resin absorbed high impact projectile energy compared other fibers. Furthermore, increasing the number of fibers and metal layers, improved FML resistance toward projectile perforation
