Abstract:

A significant portion of today’s population lives in coastal zones as urban development and recreational activities in these areas increase continuously. Therefore accurate prediction of maximum wave overtopping on breakwaters is a vital issue for determining crest level of coastal structures. Safe use of lowlying and densely populated coastal regions depends critically on the performance of coastal structures in defending these areas against storm surge,wave attack, flooding and erosion. Continuing sea level rise and climate change (storms are becoming rougher) emphasis the need for reliable androbust predictions as higher storm surges and bigger storms may lead to flooding. Population pressures on and use in coastal regions have sometimesignored age-old appreciation of coastal hazards. This paper describes some researches related to wave overtopping estimation by the mean of artificial neural network
