Investigating the unidirectional motions of the light- driven molecular motors based on ab initio calculations

In this paper have focused on the construction of devices based on sterically overcrowded alkenes. The new molecular motors all show two cis-trans isomerization upon irradiation, each followed by a thermal helix inversion, resulting in a 360° unidirectional rotation around the central double bond. Ab initio quantum mechanic calculations show the function of the light-driven motors and corroborate that these compounded with axial orientations of the methyl are more stable than equatorial orientation.
