Bioinformatics in fisheries and aquaculture

Bioinformatics is an interdisciplinary field mainly involving molecular biology and genetics, computer science, mathematics, and statistics [1]. Bioinformatics is the application of information technology to manage biological data that helps in decoding animal and plant genomes. In the past decade, whole genome sequences of approximately 50 fish species have been reported [2]. With the rapid development of fish genome publication, bioinformatics methods and software have been upgraded frequently [3]. This review summarizes the recent advances in bioinformatics for fish genomics, with an emphasis on the development of software for genome assembly, genome annotation, and evolutionary analysis. This review will be helpful for the new players of genome analysis on both animals and plants.
