Abstract:

Cognition, is the process of acquiring knowledge and use it to generate new knowledge through thought, experience and senses [1]. Human brain is the most important source of cognitive power, which has been involved in problem solving. Computer scientists aimed at enabling computers to imitate the cognition behavior of human brain, under the terms known as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Cognitive Computing, etc. [2] and have reached very impressive unimaginable levels of success and applications, however, there are still tasks which are very hard for computers, but easy for a human [3]. This is where the human computation comes to existence [4-6]. There are also some forms of cognition shown by some species such as mammals, birds, insects, etc. Collaborative cognition is a type of cognition in which, all types of cognition are employed altogether to resolve a problem [7]. Due to the data-intensive and also the complex nature of bioinformatics problems, we believe that collaborative cognition is a suitable solution to some serious problems in the area, but despite some applications [8], there are several issues that need to be studied. In this paper, we study concepts of collaborative cognition, opportunities and challenges when applied to bioinformatics.
