Abstract:
Biological processes such as development, proliferation, apoptosis, and differentiation require a precise set of steps that depend on the proper spatial and temporal expression of genes. Transcription is the most important level of these steps which can be created by intrinsic or extrinsic signals. The dynamic behavior of Transcription Regulatory Elements (TRE) and the analysis of transcriptional activity at the single cell have been revealed unexpected elements of stochastic nature of this process. Emerging research reveals a complex picture, wherein a wide range of the TREs interplay to generate transcriptional programs. The challenge now is to develop a perspective that can guide us to common underlying mechanisms. Here we review the recent literature on the most famous TREs and relation between them to regulate transcription programs. We also present a theoretical quantum model that may be explains some aspect of the dynamic and stochastic gene regulation in the transcription level.
