Needs of Patients with Breast Cancer and their families

Background: Breast cancer is a relevant topic in the all health care system. Every year, number of women have are newly-confronted with this diagnosis. Cancer is perceived by most people as an existential threat, they become aware of their mortality, which often elicits fear and emotional distress. These patients and their families are confronted with a life-threatening disease and find themselves in a situation that changes their life. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted by searching in many databases such as Scopus, PubMed, Ovid, Science Direct, Google scholar and by using keywords such as Patient Needs , Family Needs and Breast Cancer in 2005 to 2017. All articles were collected from journals, books and other resources published in both Persian and English languages. Findings: Women with breast cancer and their families are confronted with needs psychologically, physically and socially. Also these patients experienced high levels of unmet needs across the needs domains, particularly in the health system and information domain. If the patient s needs are not addressed properly, patients will be faced with many serious challenges. Conclusion: Care providers can identify such requirements in patients with breast cancer and their families. Due to the close relationship with patients, nurses can identify the psychological, physical andsocial needs and attempt to solve these needs well.
