Relationship between Preeclampsia and Breast Cancer : A case-control study

Abstract:

Introduction & Aim: The most common cancer known worldwide that causes widespread mortality of women is breast cancer. In most cases, no known risk factor has been identified for patients with breast cancer. Preeclampsia in pregnancy may be associated with a reduced risk of breast cancer. Most previous studies are small and have shown conflicting results. Identifying risk factors help primary prevention and early detection of breast cancer. The purpose of this research is comparison history of Preeclampsia in Iranian women with breast cancer and healthy women, who referred to hospitals affiliated to Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences Tehran, Iran in 2017. Methods: This comparative (retrospective) study was conducted on 450 women (case group with 120 and control group with 120 samples ) referring to hospitals of Tehran Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in 2017 , who were selected through convenient sampling method. Data collection tool was questionnaire . The questionnaire included Data were analyzed by SPSS software (version 24), descriptive statistics , independent t test Chi-square and Mann-Whitney test . P value less than 0.05 were considered statistically significant. Results: In case group(10.4%) and control group (9.2%) had history of preeclampsia . Cancer breast were insignificantly associated with history of preeclampsia, age of marriage, age of first conception and sex of first baby . (P> 0.05). Conclusion: The relationship preeclampsia and breast cancer is unclear. In study, this relation was not found.
