Exploring of family social support after mastectomy in women referring to Omid Hospital in Mashhad in 2018

Introduction & Aim: Social support ,as one of the emotional-response coping mechanisms,is recognized as the largest and strongest coping force for the success of individuals in the event of a person s involvement in cancer and stressful conditions and facilitates the handling of these problems for patients. Inadequate social support and dissatisfaction lead to psychological distress and disturbance in relationships. The aim of this study was to evaluate the social support received in Mastectomy patients referring to Omid Hospital in Mashhad in 2018. Methods: This descriptive- analytical study was performed on 137 patientswith mastectomy breast cancer in the Omid Hospital in Mashhad. Sampling was done by census method. The family social support standard questionnaire was used to collect data. After data entry to spss22, descriptive statistics (central indexes and dispersion) and inferential statistics (with regard to non-normality of Spearman, Kruskal Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests) were used to analyze the data. Results: The average score of social support was 70.98 ± 18.51, which indicates that the women participating in the study had a good level of social support. There was also a significant relationship between social support with education and economic situation. Conclusion: According to the results of the study, strategies should be adopted to maintain and enhance social support, and educational sessions should be held to accommodate the families with changes.
