Abstract:

Tall buildings are a common sight in contemporary cities, especially in those countries where land is scarce, as they offer a high ratio of floor space per area of land. Tall buildings are also, arguably, a sign of a city‟s economic stature. Tubular frames are one of the common structural systems in designing tall buildings. Framed-tube and braced-tube are the famous structural systems among other tubular frames (Fig.1). Designs of these frames need precise analyses. Shear lag phenomenon as an unexpected behavior of these frames should be seriously considered. In this paper we are going to investigate the solutions of reducing shear lag. A computer program written in Matlab and OpenSees will be the analyzing program. All the models in this research are steel frames. Exact wind load distribution is calculated according to ASCE 7-10. Results are illustrated in graphical formats
