Abstract:

In this paper, new advances are addressed for a numerical scheme called the Scaled Boundary Finite-Element Method (SBFEM) recently developed for dynamic analysis of unbounded domains. A Padé series solution for the SBFE equation in dynamic stiffness is developed. A high-order local transmitting boundary condition constructed from a continued-fraction solution of the dynamic-stiffness matrix is developed. Applying the continued-fraction solution, the equation of motion of unbounded domain is formulated as that in classical structural dynamics, i.e., a system of ordinary differential equations with symmetric and frequency-independent coefficient matrices.

Keywords:

scaled boundary finite-element method , Padé series , continued-fraction , soil-structure interaction.
