Abstract:

Introduction: Emergence of antibiotic resistant bacteria is a global threat to public health. In recent years, the rate of multi-drug resistant bacteria has been increasing worldwide. The aim of this study was to determine the antibiotic resistance profile of Gram-negative and positive bacteria isolated from ICU ward of Afzalipour hospital, Kerman, Iran, 2017.Material and Methods: During one year, 295 and 37 clinical isolates of gram negative and positive bacteria were collected from different clinical samples from ICU ward of Afzalipour Hospital, respectively. We were determined antibiotic susceptibility profile of bacteria by disk diffusion method. Results: Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus spp., were the common Gram-negative and positive bacteria that isolated from patients in ICU ward, respectively. Cephalexin was the most effective antibiotic against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and the highest rate of resistance was observed to ciprofloxacin in this bacterium. In staphylococcus spp. isolates, the most effective antibiotic was vancomycin and 53.33% of these isolates were MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus). Conclusion: Surveillance on the antibiotic resistance profile of bacteria is very important for infection control and treatment of infections.
