Abstract:

In this paper, terbium(III) complex containing 1,10-phenanthroline (phen), was successfully synthesized and characterized by means of elemental analysis (CHN), infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), UV-vis absorption spectroscopy and 1HNMR. To explore the potential medicinal value of this complex, their binding interactions with bovine serum albumin (BSA) were investigated through UV-vis and fluorescence spectroscopies and also molecular docking examinations. The thermodynamic parameters, binding forces, and Förster resonance distance between this complex and Trp-214 of BSA were estimated from the analysis of fluorescence measurements. Furthermore, the results of molecular docking calculation and competitive binding experiments represent the binding of this complex to site 3 of BSA located in subdomain IB, containing both polar and apolar residues. From both experimental and docking results, the value of binding constant existing the remarkably high affinity of terbium complex to BSA. Moreover, Tb(III) complex have been simultaneously screened for its antimicrobial activities
