Abstract:

Cobalt catalysts are often used for Fischer−Tropsch synthesis(FTS), whereby CO and H2 are converted into long chain alkanes for the production of ultraclean transportation fuels [1,2]. Cobalt is considered the most favorable metal for the synthesis of long-chain hydrocarbons from natural gas-based synthesis gas because of its high activity, high selectivity to linear paraffins, high resistance toward deactivation, and low water– gas shift(WGS) activity. Syngas can be obtained from biomass, coal, and natural gas by gasification and/or reforming [3-5]. Alumina-supported Cobalt catalyst was pepared by wet impergnation method. The Co loading was 14 wt.% on each catalyst. The sample was dried at 393 K for 20 h and calcined at 673 K for 3 h. The catalysts was characterized using XRD,H2-TPR, SEM and BET techniques. The catalytic reaction experiments were conducted in a fixed-bed stainless steel reactor. The reactor was loaded by 2 g of catalyst. The catalyst was reduced in a H2 flow for 16h. Following the reduction process, the reactor pressure and temperature raised to 25 bar and 220 oC ,respectively and the reaction initiated in synthesis gas stream with H2/CO = 2.1 and SV= 1.8 nl.h-1.gCat-1. The products were analyzed by a gas chromatography (GC) for analyzing H2 ,CO, CO2, CH4 , other non-condensable gases and liquid products. Co conversion and products distribution of the catalyst was calculated using results of GC.
