Abstract:

One of the most attractive methods to overcome serious energy crisis and environmental contamination problems is photocatalytic hydrogen production from water using semiconductor materials [1]. Recently, along with a lot of other semiconductors, carbon nitride (CNx) materials have been widely investigated as promising visible light driven photocatalysts for water splitting [2]. Fast recombination of photo-induced electrons and holes at the surface limits photocatalytic activity of CNx. Cooperating with a cocatalyst can effectively facilitate photoexcited charge separation at the surface of CNx and then improve its photocatalytic performance [3]. In present study, an active nanocluster has been introduced as an efficient cocatalyst to improve the photocatalytic hydrogen evolution of CNx. The resultant nanocomposite exhibited higher photocatalytic H2 evolution comparable to those of pure CNx.
