Can Celiac Disease Affect Drug Bioavailability or not?

Celiac disease (CD) is a widespread, T cell-mediated autoimmune inflammatory disease of the small intestine which is activated in the presence of gluten. In these circumstances, intestinal mucosa is destroyed and absorptive surface loses its function as a consequence. Therefore, it is expected that the absorption of oral medications be impaired as well as nutrients. Hence, in this paper, we decided to review studies on drug absorption in patients with celiac. Studies showed that the mean plasma concentrations of some drugs in CD has changed. So it seems necessary to follow the pharmacokinetic disposition of orally administered drugs in CD in order to prescribe the correct dose of medications
