Abstract:
In recent years, Fiber Bragg Grating sensing devices have been developed in biomechanical application. FBGs are used to monitor strain and temperature of skeleton system which is basically adapts to mechanical loadings [1]. The important feature of FBGS is that the sensed information is translated into a reflected wavelength shift giving measurements in spite of optical losses and intensity fluctuations. The main objective of the this article is to achieve a reflectivity level higher than 90% and side lobes level around −50 dB, which is appropraite for use in strain sensing application. For this purpose, different grating design parameters such as apodization profile, grating length, and refractive index have been adjusted to improve the FBGS design. The performance of the proposed sensor has been evaluated in terms of reflectivity, side lobe level (SLL), and full width at half maximum (FWHM).
