Abstract:
Electric vehicles (EV) industry is growing rapidly for environmental issues. The EV industry is seeking for a suitable candidate for an electric motor. Switched reluctance motors are widely used in industrial applications, especially in EV industry. This paper presents a novel axial flux switched reluctance motor with modular rotor and stator structures. In order to calculate the output characteristics, a 3-D finite element analysis is adopted. Furthermore, the magnetic equivalent circuit modeling is applied to verify the machine performance. It is also shown that the proposed motor, has a noticeable capability of fault tolerance. This property is verified by FEA in an opened coil condition. Finally, the novel structure is compared with an existing model. It is demonstrated that the new topology is better than the existing one.
