Abstract:
Abstract—The aim of this paper is to propose a proper controller for battery/ultra-capacitor Energy Storage System (ESS) for a Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) with parallel structure. In this study an optimal power-sharing control strategy based on fuzzy logic for power distribution of the sources is developed. Simulation is carried out by linking ADVISOR and MATLAB/Simulink software in standard drive cycle. Under identical conditions simulation results for a conventional ESS (batteries alone) and proposed ESS are compared. To demonstrate the performance of the proposed ESS, flow analysis: current, power and lifetime of battery, overall ESS efficiency, fuel consumption and emissions are analyzed for two cases. Simulation results show that the proposed ESS controller is able to absorb maximum braking energy efficiently. Based on the simulation results, it is shown that remarkable improvement in battery lifetime and efficiency of the whole ESS has been achieved.
