Abstract:

In this paper radar cross section reduction of patch antenna is investigated using band-stop frequency selective surface as part of the antenna ground plane. Wide band radar cross section reduction is achieved as the frequency selective surface is represented the ground plane in stop-band and is transparent in other frequencies. Stop band is as the same as the frequency band of antenna resonance which is from 3.3 to 3.4 GHz. By this design not only the radar cross section is reduced but the antenna characteristics are remained unchanged in its working frequencies. To increase the number of frequency selective surface elements, they are miniaturized by lump inductance embedded in their resonators. It is shown that wideband reduction of radar cross section is obtained from low frequencies to 9.5GHz and changes in antenna pattern, gain and impedance bandwidth are negligible.
