Comparing the Effect of Horizontal Canopy on Absorbing Radiation of Vertical Surfaces, (Case Study: Shrine of the prophet Khezr in Abadan and Shrine of Awn Ibn Ali in Tabriz)

Abstract:

This paper aims at measuring the performance of veranda in increasing utilization of solar energy in pilgrimage buildings of two different climates of Köppen zoning in Iran. Pilgrimage buildings were determined with the help of Analytic hierarchy process (AHP) of existing buildings with the chosen criteria of Likert of nine items. With the help of computationalmethod of Duffie, solar elevation angles and solar direction of Abadan (hot and humid) andTabriz (cold and dry) were extracted, and with the help of graphical methods , there was obtained hour shadow on first, tenth and twentieth of months of January and July. With thecomparison of the results, it was revealed that maximum solar elevation angle (the vertical radiation at 83) belongs to the first day of July, Abadan and the lowest (23.9) belongs to Tabriz on January twentieth inversely related with latitude. By comparing the percentage ofthe shadow area of wall behind veranda, we can say that in all samples the percentage of shadow was greater in summer than in winter, and in Tabriz with a cold climate, it became8.74 times. The entire building (100% area behind the veranda), the shrine of the prophetKhezr in Abadan is located in the shadow in the summer and annoying radiation does not hit it. In winter, in a city like Tabriz, only 5 percent of the daily facade is being stuck under theshadow showing the proper absorption of radiation in the cold climate. The results indicate integrating and applying the right direction and veranda in order to increase utilization of veranda in increased thermal comfort due to climatic absorption or the disposal of solar radiation.
