A Comparative Study of The Motivational Orientations of Iranian High School EFL Learner in Two Rural And Urban Regions of Mahan and Kerman

The present study is an attempt to compare the motivational orientation of Iranian high school EFL learners in two rural and urban regions of Mahan and Kerman. One hundred and fifty third grade high school students including seventy five rural students and seventy five urban ones , just females were randomly selected as participants .In order to obtain the required data ,a questionnaire was used as the instrument of the study . the questionnaire was adapted from Madrid, D.Y and Pérez Cañado, M. L 's model(1002) for exploring the motivation of EFL learners . Eleven variables were investigated in this questionnaire. Data analysis was done by using Statistical package for social science(SPSS , version 12 ) . Descriptive statistics (mean, frequency percent & standard deviation) were carried out for all items involved in this study .The Chi- square test was used in this study to answer the research questions . The results revealed that the respondents ' opinions on some of the variables were different to a large degree .These variables included: causal antecedents of motivation, , motivating aspects and qualities of the language teacher including physical qualities , scientific and didactic aspects, influence of the environmental factors on the student’s motivation and motivating effect of classroom activities .Thus there is a relationship between living environment and the motivational orientation of Iranian high school EFL learners in two rural and urban regions of Mahan and Kerman and that, this difference is meaningful
