Abstract:
The development of power systems and the increase in the production of electrical energy to meet the demands of consumers and also considering the good-quality and reliable power supply to customers increase the parallel connections, enlarge the network and increase the short circuit levels in the system. The short circuit current level increase generates thermal and mechanical stresses on the available equipment in the line such as circuit breakers, cables, transformers, etc. Therefore, the equipment used in the power system, especially the circuit breaker available in power lines, must withstand the stresses caused by short circuit currents. One of the simplest and most common methods to lessen the scope of fault and prevent damages to the equipment is the application of the fault current limiters (FCL) making their application in the distribution system inevitable. In this paper, the impact of resistive and inductive fault current limiters on transient recovery voltage (TRV) and circuit breakers rate of rise of recovery voltage (RRRV) accompanied by EMTP software was simulated and evaluated
