Abstract:

Application of the truss shaped structures is one of the common methods in excavation supporting. To design the support systems, most of the engineers calculate the lateral loads on the structure manually and then, analyze the loaded structure by the finite element software. However for the more realistic design, it is necessary to model the structure and the surrounding medium globally. In this paper, by considering three different depths for excavations (i.e. 4, 7, 10 m) and also a typical structure for each depth, the values of internal forces in structural members are compared for two mentioned methods. There is also an investigation about the effects of soil stiffness and the property of soil–structure interface layer on the results of analyses.
