Investigation of Schizothorax zarudnyi and Schizocypris altidorsalis relationship with some of Barbinae species in Iran

To investigate the relationship between Schizothorax zarudnyi and S. altidorsaliswith Barbus sharpeyi B. subquinciatus, B. xanthopterus and B. esocinus, the nativebarbinae species from South of Iran, specimens were collected from Chahnemeh’sreservoirs and Karoon River. Genomic DNA was extracted from fin tissue usingphenol-chlorophorm method. PCR was performed using pair specific primers toamplification 980 bp mitochondrial cytochrome b (Cyt b) region. After checking thePCR products by electrophoresis, they were purified using purification kit anddirectly sequenced. The results showed that S. zarudnyi and S. altidorsalis aremonophyletic and a sister group of B. sharpeyi. This finding can provide valuableinformation for their management and conservation programs of this valuable nativespecies.
