Abstract:

Fish is one of the most diverse group of vertebrates which their immune system issimilar to mammals and birds. This investigation aimed to study the histologicalstructure of lymphatic organs (spleen and head kidney) in Euryglossa orientalis, oneof the commercial fishes of Persian Gulf, since there is no information on itslymphatic organs. In total 50 specimens were collected from different stations of theMahshahr creeks. Samples from spleen and head kidney were removed andhistological sections prepared based on paraffin method. Histological sections wereexamined using a light microscopic. The results showed the growth of lymphatictissues instead of nephrons in the head kidney. In addition, lymphatic tissues of headkidney were developed around the posterior venous branches and comprised of adelicate network of reticular cells including mature and immature blood cells. Also, the spleen was surrounded by a double layers’ thick capsule and the blades consistingof strings were extended into its parenchyma. The main part of parenchyma wascomprised of red pulps and the rest white pulps.
