Abstract:

Garra rufa is a cyprinid fish distributed in western and south western of Iran. Thehead without scales, two pairs of barbels and adhesive disc with a free posteriormargin are morphological attributes of this species. This fish can feed on the dermalscars and can help to cure some dermal diseases, so it named doctor fish. A littleinformation is available about its physiology and ecology, especially in Iran. Henceas a preliminary step, this study aimed to study its length-weight relationships of thisspecies in the Palangan and Sirvan Rivers of the Tigris basin. Based on the results, there were a significant length-weight relationships in both rivers (P<0.001). Thelength-weight relationship of the Sirvan and Palangan Rivers were W=0.015L 3.001and W= 0.052L 2.950 , respectively. The liner equations were LogW= -1.8 + 3.001 LogL and LogW= -1.282 + 2.950 LogL, in Sirvan and Palangan populations, respectively. The b parameter values were obtained as 3.00 for Sirvan population and2.95 for Palangan one indicating isometric growth in both rivers. The averagecondition factor in the Palangan River was 4.61 and 1.6 in Sirvan River.
