The first record and report of two families (Nettastomatidae and Synaphobranchidae) of Anguiliformes order in Iranian museums of the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea

Nettastomatidae and Synaphobranchidae from the order Anguiliformes are a part offish fauna in the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea. It has commercial, nourishing andOrnamental values. This research revising the samples classification and systematicspecimens of Nettastomatidae and Synaphobranchidae in southern coast of Iran, i.e.Bushehr, Chabahar, Bandar Abbas, Bandar lengeh and from museums, universitiesand research centers in Iran form 2007-2008. All valid published ichthyologicalreferences of this area (the fishing area 51) were considered. The result showed thatamong 27 eel s samples two samples were in Nettastomatidae andSynaphobranchidae families. Hoplunis diomedianus (Good and Bean, 1896) andSynaphobranchus affinis (Gutter,1877) are identified and reported for the first timein the Persian Gulf and Iranian waters of the Oman Sea.
