Abstract:
Wingnut (Pterocarya fraxinifolia) as a local tree is grown from southern Caspian toCaucasian regions and also in Ukraine. In this study, the water-based and methanolbasedextracts of the young and old leaves of wingnut were evaluated for theantifungal activities against Saprolegnia, one of the pathogenic aquatic fungalsaprophytes of the affected eggs of rainbow trout, using the agar-well diffusion assaymethod. The isolates of Saprolegnia were isolated and inoculated in the culture mediathen antifungal activities of the Pterocarya fraxinifolia Spach leaves extracts wereevaluated against the saprophyte fungi during a week with the agar-well diffusionmethods (50 μl of the extracts at concentration of 2.5%, 5% and 10% and Nistatin1% as positive and methanol as negative control). The best inhibitory effects wereachieved by the water-based extract of young leaves of wingnut. The results alsoindicated that the best antifungal activity was obtained by the concentration of 10%.
