Abstract:

The entrance of heavy metals into aquatic ecosystems due to their accumulation inmarine organisms and its transfer to food chain hierarchy can be led to variousdamages in different levels. For this study, a total number of 72 Yellow-fin Seabreamspecimens were divided into five treatments with different concentrations ofcadmium (1, 3, 6, 9, 12mg/l) and a control group. Fish were kept under experimentalcondition for 14 days. Tissue samples were removed from liver at 0, 7, and 14 dayafter exposure and fixed into bouin s solution. Histological sections were preparedbased on routine technique and stained using hematoxylin -eosin method. Thesections were studied under light microscopy. The results showed pathologicalalterations in liver tissues exposure to cadmium including hypertrophy, vacuolizationand melanomacrophage, and picknoes and necrosis with increasing cadmiumconcentrations. Also, the size of hepatocytes increased significantly (P<0.05) in 6mg/l and higher concentration in compare to control treatment. The results alsorevealed the exposure time and concentration of cadmium are led to incrase of thehistophatological damages of liver tissues.
