Abstract:
In this paper, a comprehensive mathematical model for the design of dynamic cellular manufacturing system by considering production planning and intracell layout is proposed. The model incorporates several design features such as: sequence of operations, alternate process routings, intracell layout, material flow, production planning, cell reconfiguration and lot splitting. The objective function is to minimize the total costs of intercellular material handling, forward and backward intracellular material handling, machine operating, machine maintenance and overhead, cell reconfiguration, outsourcing and inventory holding. Numerical examples and computational results are presented to demonstrate the model performance and its potential benefits.
