Though it seems to have been adopted from pre-islamic Persian tradition,the mazalim court became a regular feature in states in Islamic civilizationfrom the early Abbasid period onward. This paper will explore how themazalim court was used to resolve some of the problems and tensions aroundlaw and justice within the Shariah tradition
