Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to investigate heat source distribution on temperature variations and residual stresses in two butt-welded pipes. A moving heat source model has been developed, based on the model of Goldak's double-ellipsoid volumetric heat flux distribution. The Finite element model takes into account metal elasticity, plasticity and temperature dependent material properties. The Schaeffler diagram has been used in determining suitable filler metal for this process. A three dimensional model is developed by ABAQUS software to evaluate thermal history and residual stress field in thermo mechanical process during welding. In this study numerical results have good agreement with experimental results
