Abstract:
This paper attempts to evaluate the evolution of skyscrapers and the fundamental changes in their structural and non-structural systems over the past fifty years. The emphasis of the article is on the changes in their forms and structural systems as well as the progress in their views and plans. Library studies and internet researches are the main base of the research methodology of this article. As a result, this study has found out that the forms of skyscrapers have become much more consistent according to their architectural and structural systems over the past fifty years. In addition, this study shows that the architecture of skyscrapers and their structural systems have combined in form and facade. The height and the total area of skyscrapers have also improved, their extents have increased much more than before, and the plans and views have become more different in the last decades of this period. Indeed, although skyscrapers established in United States at the beginning of the 19th century, the paper revealed that skyscrapers were decreasing in United States at the end of this century. Meanwhile they have rapidly developed elsewhere in the world, especially in East Asia and Middle East over the past two decades
