Abstract:

Darehgap River derives from centeral mountains of Fars province in Iran and passes through dofferent regions. In final stages, the river crawls in an alluvial flat plain and after numerous bendings and direction changes. Reaches the waters of persian Gulf, where the Genaveh estuary is formed. Genaveh port is a small ports situated in the mouth of this estuary. High rate of sedimentation in the harbur and the access channel affects the performance of the port the origin of sediments in the area is mainly by Darehgap river and littoral drifts. Nearsbore currents and beach changes around the mouth of Genaveh estuary and along the coast were investigated through numerical simulations and field observations. This paper describes results of these simulations and discusses on importance of various important phenomena for sedimentation of Genaveh harbour. Simulation results indicate that tidal currents have considerable contribution in longshore sediment results transport in this region and should not be neglacted. The results of the simulations can be used as a database for rehabilitation and development of the Genaveh coast.
