Abstract:

The covstruction of pile foundations is one of the most challengine aspects in foundation engineering. In particular, marine and offshore foundations often run into unpredictable behavior of seafloor sediments, which may result in escalating the cost of construction. one of the most common problems, with significant financial implication, is an inaccurate estimate of the required depth of foundation piles, especially when piles have to be cast or purchased ahead of time. other problems include inadequate pile capacity, which involves potential human and financial cost. the most common method of verification and quality assurance in foundation engineering is static testing, which involves actual loading of piles up to a safe resistance level. although static loading of piles is a reliable quality assurance procedure, it is costly, and sometimes impossible to perform. As a result, testing programs thet perovide adequate representation of conditions across the aite are impractical in terms of feasibility, associated cost, and available time.
