Analyzing Six Years of Field Measurements For Longshore Sediment Transport and Closure Depth at Zarabad

It is usually difficult to estimate the longshore sediment transport (LST) with sufficient accuracy. Periodical bathymetric and beach profile measurements near the new harbours are a valuable toolfor evaluating or calibrating the existent LST relationships. They can also be used for evaluatingthe surf zone width. The present study analyzes six years of periodical beach profile measurements close to a new fishery harbour, Zarabad [3]. The harbour is located at the Iranian shoreline of the Oman Sea (seeFigs. 1). The study includes comparison of the successive beach profiles and measuring thesediment accumulation near the harbour. It also includes verification of the CERC and Kamphuis91 LST relationships. The influence of the Gonu Cyclone event on the longshore sediment transport and the beach profile has also studied. The measurements have been used for calibrating the GENESIS model for the shoreline changes
