Abstract:

Grammatically accurate use of language in both speaking and writing skills is important for all students at universities, and using technology in teaching grammar makes instruction and the process of learning more enjoyable, easier, and more effective. The present study was an attempt to investigate the role of technology (screencasting, word processing, and social networking through Whatsapp) in learning grammar among university students. One cycle of a practical action research was used with an embedded quasi-experimental design, to determine the effectiveness of the technology-based intervention on the learners’ grammar learning. Quantitative data were collected using a pre- and post-test and qualitative data were gathered through student class notes and interviews. The findings indicate improvement in learning grammar and high levels of satisfaction regarding the use of technology. Students reported using grammar strategies more, making fewer grammatical mistakes, and getting more interested in grammar. In conclusion, the study encourages future research on technology-mediated grammar performance through longitudinal studies.
