Abstract:

The potential of geothermal energy in Iran is large in terms of moderate, low and someway also for high temperature. It has been evaluated that Meshkin-Shahr with 48.48*1018 is in the most promising of the 14 suitable regions for geothermal activities near Sabalan Mountains in the north-west of Iran.According to the data from well testing, resource characteristics and well productivity, projects assuming 55 MWe of double flash power plants are underway by the geothermal department in the Renewable Energies Organization of Iran (SUNA).In this paper, it has been considered to choose the most suitable one between various technologies of geothermal power plants (GPPs) with an economical installed capacity(MW) for Meshkin-Shahr power plant. The result of the calculations in this paper and comparison with similar projects shows that based on resource characteristics, changing technology and installed capacity from double flash to single flash condensing and 55 to 35 MW will be more economical.
