Abstract:
To explain flow, turbulence and gas holdup distribution of bubble column reactor, comprehensive mathematical model is provided to large diameter bubble columns (> 0.1m) with zero or low liquid through put, sparged gas would be passed through central portion of column preferentially. Non-uniform gas holdup distribution would lead to macro-circulation and turbulence of reactor. By this two new mechanisms have been proposed and modelled to describe non-uniform gas holdup distribution of bubble columns. The effects of accompanying wakes and column wall have been evaluated based on motion of gas bubbles for the first time. Turbulent and dispersed gas liquid flow is described based on time averaged two phase momentum equations. The turbulent stresses have been simulated using k model. Related terms to gas holdup fluctuations and pressure gradient are include in model also estimated flow characteristics has been verified in bubble column reactor compared to extensive experimental data.
