Abstract:

Polymethyl methacrylate/zinc oxide (PMMA/ZnO) nano composite were synthesized in-situ emulsion polymerization by the radical as initiator. The interfacial compatibility between nano ZnO particles and PMMA were improved by treating the surface of nano ZnO using Stearic acid which was indicated that nano ZnO particles have been encapsulated in the PMMA phase. The potassium per sulphate as the initiator reacted with the nano-ZnO particle indicated and polymerized with MMA monomers. It was clear that ZnO particles can be homogeneously dispersed in the polymeric matrix. The final products were characterized with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and Ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometer (UV-Vis.) and the roles of modified ZnO were studied.
