Abstract:

One of the efficient passive heat transfer enhancement method is using turbulators which generate turbulent swirling flow. In present study, curved conical injector type swirl generator is considered as turbulator. A three -dimension numerical simulation is performed to investigate the effect of curved conical nozzle swirl generator on the heat transfer improvement of air flow through a pipe. Investigated curved nozzle has several rows of flow director to create turbulent swirl flow. Two geometrical parameters including angle of the curvature and diameter of flow director are studied numerically in a range of Reynolds numbers from 10000 to 35000. The simulations are performed by a commercial CFD code (ANSYS Fluent 18.2) . Three different diameters of flow director (4, 7 and 10 mm) and three different angles of the curvature (11, 22 and 45 degree) are considered here. It is found that the utilizing this kind of turbulator increases the heat transfer rate. However, it declines the thermal performance because of higher pressure drop. Also, considered geometrical parameters have significant influences on heat transfer enhancement.
