Abstract:

In recent decades many researchers have studied on the damage assessment of structures after a seismic event. To predict the damage potential of an earthquake, it is so important to study the inter-relationship between seismic parameters and damage of structures and find the seismic parameters which have the highest correlation with damage intensity. To characterize a seismic event a lot of parameters have been defined. Spectral parameters of an earthquake incorporate a variety of information about ground motion. Also, many damage indices were proposed by researchers to quantify the damage of the structures.Park-Ang index is one of the best indices to describe the damage of a structure. So in this paper, the correlations between Spectral parameters and Park-Ang indexes are studied. A three storey RC frame is analyzed under far-fault earthquake records by nonlinear dynamic analyses. The correlations between spectral parameters and Park-Ang indexes are calculated. The results show that most of spectral parameters have high correlations with damage intensity. So some spectral parameters of an earthquake which have high correlations with damage intensity can be proper indices to estimate the damage potential of an earthquake.
