Abstract:
generally the seismic hazard analysis result are considered in design of any type structures, seismic hazard assessment for kurdistan region in north iraq is conducted using probabilistic approach (PSHA) in this research using the historical earthquake data, geology and tectonic setting. seismic activity and seismic source model. A uniform earthquake catalog constructed combining several individual global and regional catalogs. totally 32 seismic sources are modeled for seismic hazard analysis. using the SEISRISKIII computer program the seismic hazard is evaluated for a grid of 513 sites with 0.2° intervals for area encompassed by the 40/5-47/5° E longitudes and 34/0-38/5° N latitudes. the result have been presented in the form of iso-acceleration contour lines which display peak ground acceleration (PGA) over bedrock for the return periods of 475 and 75 years. the maximum (more than 0/4g) acceleration can be seen in Iran-Iraq and Turkey -Iraq borders.
