Abstract:

To achieve ideas for sustainable architecture, we do not have to go far away. We can find it in our nearly lost vernacular architecture since this architecture, in every region and culture, has traditionally tended to evolve over time to reflect the environmental, cultural and historical context in which it exists. Also, the appropriate aspects of this kind of architecture can be evaluated and brought to the modern cities. This article takes lessons directly from traditional and vernacular architecture of Hot and Humid climate of Iran and offers them to the readers as guidance and inspiration for new buildings. The appropriate technical and social solutions provided by the vernacular and traditional architecture are analyzed in detail. The case studies focus on sustainable design aspects of traditional architecture like cultural, regional, economical and aesthetic characteristics.
