Abstract:

Urban runoff is one of the issue that big cities may suffer. Monitoring urban street flooding is gaining momentum in recent years according to plans for management of smart cities’ assets. Urban drainage system is the natural or artificial removal of surface water from an area. These structures might face trouble sometimes and detecting these conditions might be hard. In order to detect any damage in drainage system one solution is to use smart materials within the drainage structures. However, this is a costly solution, so it is better to use smart materials or insert sensors just in some risky place. Moreover, a Volunteered Geographic Information system has been considered as a time and cost efficient way to collect information about the other different conditions of local drainage systems. In the present study the enabling technologies and frameworks that are needed to smart monitor flooding and urban runoffs have been discussed. Then an initial scenario is described for future work.
