Abstract:

Currently, the major part of Iran water needs, especially drinking water, is supplied through groundwater resources. The susceptibility of a groundwater aquifer to pollution caused by actions and activities on the ground is presented by the term vulnerability . According to the the US National Committee’s definition, groundwater vulnerability to pollution is the inclination or probability of taking pollutants to a specific area in the underground water system after their creation in some areas above the aquifer level. In this article, the vulnerability of Bojnourd Plain Acquifier was assessed using the DRASTIC method to help clarify the practical and feasible policies for managing groundwater resources. According to the results, the vulnerability index of the dramatic model in the Bojnourd Plain ranged from 73 to 161, indicating the variable status of the plain in terms of vulnerability in different areas. To better understand and show the status of the aquifer inherent vulnerability, the final obtained index was classified into 6 different classes. Accordingly, most of the areas in Bojnourd Plain had low and low to moderate vulnerability.
