Biomimicry: An insight for sustainable development in building industry

It is clear that there is a need to make a shift in the way built environment is created to have more sustainability. By looking to the living world, there may be models that can be mimicked to create and maintain more sustainable built environment. There is a globally accepted environmentally friendly concept of design in different fields calledBiomimicry. In Biomimicry nature is studying and nature has a principle to always live in harmony with its environment. This paper aims to introduce Biomimicry science andexplore the application of it as a tool in different fields of building industry to have more sustainable built environment. The type of research used in this study comprises ofexamination of the researches relating to Biomimicry in architecture and other related fields. The findings of the study include Biomimicry applications in four major fieldsconsist of architecture, civil engineering, urban planning and interior architecture. The benefits of this research are expected to provide insight for designers and practitioners of building industry to engage nature more deeply in their designs and projects to solve the numerous environmental problems human faced.
