Abstract:

In this study a highly simple and sensitive spectrometric method for determination of copper (II) is proposed. In this investigation, 1- phenyl – 1,2 propandione – 2 – oxime – thiosemicabazone (PPDOT) used as copmplexing agent and new preconcentration method termed directly suspended solvent microextraction (DSDME), was developed. In this technique, an aqueous sample is agitated with a stirring bar, creating a mild vortex at the center of the vial. A droplet of an immiscible organic solvent is placed at the bottom of the vortex. After 15 min a portion of the organic droplet is withdrawn with a microsyring and It’s copper content determined by flame atomic absorption spectrometry. Experimental conditions, such as PH, extraction solvent, concentration of PPDOT, extraction time, solvent volume, aqueous phase volume, stirring rate and salt addition were optimized. in order to evaluate the practical application of the method, relative standard deviation, linearity range and limit of the detection was calculated. The method was applied to the determination of copper in different samples.
